Grey Likes Weddings Rockin' a new rock?!

Let’s face it, wedding planning can get exhausting. Sometime you just need to grab a glass (or a bottle) of wine, put your feet up, and unwind. And what better way to do that that by putting on a movie? Here’s my and my fiancé’s list of wedding-themed films to remind us of everything that’s beautiful and fun about weddings.

BEST FAMILY-FRIENDLY MOVIE: MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING

BFGW

She says: As if Joey Fatone’s acting career wasn’t enough to interest you, this movie has it all. It’s good clean funny fun. Cringe-worthily awkward at times, heart warming at others, Greek Wedding is the highest grossing romantic comedy of all time. And numbers don’t lie. Witty and warm, this movie is a candid look at what it means to bring two families together, and the struggles and triumphs that come with that process. The best part? You can actually watch it with your family.

BEST ALL-AROUND: FATHER OF THE BRIDE

FotB

He says: When my wife-to-be asked for my two-cents on the world’s best wedding movie the answer was a no-brainer. Father of the Bride, starring that silver-haired genius Steve Martin, is a classic. No other movie has managed to express the hilarity, stress, frustration and, yes, romance a wedding brings like this insanely funny, yet poignant, remake. As a young male who is just now dipping his toe into the crazy pool that is wedding planning I appreciate this movie more than ever and find myself commiserating with the befuddled Steve Martin as he tries to keep his sanity preparing for his daughter’s nuptials. Also, Martin Short’s unforgettable performance as the impossible-to-understand “Franck” steals the show.

BEST “YOU’RE NOT ALONE” MOVIE: 27 DRESSES

27

She says: You’re pulling out your hair. You feel like nobody understands your vision. Nothing’s going your way. Fear not, you are not alone! Jane (Katherine Heigl) has been there too. I mean, hey, at least you already have your man! This movie has a simple plot and a healthy smattering of cute guys. It’s a chick flick to its core. If you’re up to your ears in frustration and just want an easy-to-watch, feel-good movie, I’d recommend trying on 27 Dresses. Plus, Casey (Judy Greer) embodies that tell-it-like-it-is voice we all have playing in our minds telling us to chill the heck out.

BEST MOVIE HE’LL WANT TO WATCH: THE GODFATHER

God

He says: The Godfather counts as a wedding film, right? I mean, the whole first quarter takes place during a wedding! This blessed event is where we meet the title characters, are introduced to the important theme of family loyalty and where we first hear those famous words: “I’ll make him an offer he can’t refuse.” Romantic!!

BEST GIRLS’ NIGHT IN MOVIE: BRIDESMAIDS

Maids

She says: I made the mistake of watching this movie in theaters with my mom. Thank goodness she has a sense of humor and we survived the opening scene. But what’s painfully awkward sitting next to the woman who raised you becomes tons of fun with your best girls (shirtless Jon Hamm anyone?). Your bridesmaids are your best friends, your wing-women, your therapists, and your allies. Gather them up, let the drinks flow freely, and laugh the night away.
