As we head into the weekend, we thought the perfect way to enjoy our Friday is with a recap of our favorite party of the year: The Cream Event.

THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015

THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(1) THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(2)

If you haven’t ever been, here’s how it works. The genius team behind The Cream Event sets a mood/theme for all the vendors–and for you! This year, the color scheme included tons of whites and creams–so everything from decor to fashion was all in these hues!! All sorts of killer wedding vendors are invited to show off their wares for you–the attendee. What is amazing is that you can see how one inspiration board can be interpreted in so many different ways! What a killer way to check out wedding pros in the actual context with which you’d use them!

THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(3) THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(4) THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(5) THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(6) THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(7) THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(8) THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(9) THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(10) THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(11) THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(12) THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(13) THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(14) THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(15) THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(16) THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(17)

Not only do you get to meet and chat with killer designers, but you also get to sip fab cocktails and munch on insanely delish food, and learn more about all kinds of amazing options to make your wedding gorg–think exquisite linens, bespoke bow ties, venue resources, stunning cakes, vintage furniture, gilded tableware–the list goes on!

THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(19) Lady Grey made an appearance with a little station to show of her Mrs. Box collection with special thanks to Bloom Babes for our fab flowers and Found Vintage Rentals for our furniture! After plenty of oogling at all the pretty, entertainment and dancing kicks off (with plenty of cocktails to go around for everyone!).

THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(18) THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(24) THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(32) THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(33) THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(34) THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(35) THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(36) THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(37) THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(38) THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(39) THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(40) THE-CREAM-EVENT-LA-2015-(41)

Every year, The Cream Event ends with the most epic dance off. For this year’s prize to the dance off winner, Wanderable teamed up with Mr. & Mrs. Smith (who has spent the last decade checking into the world’s most stylish, inspiring and romantic boutique hotels) to offer a 7 night honeymoon in France at this year’s Cream Event in Los Angeles. The incredible giveaway included a $2,000 hotel credit in Paris (which can be used at any of the 65 properties in the Mr. and Mrs. Smith Hotel Collection in France), as well as 7 different Wanderable experiences, like a Flytographer photo shoot, Macaron making class, guided tours of Montmartre and Versailles and foodie excursions! In total, the prize was valued at over $5,000!!! Crazy, right? That’s why things get a little crazy during the dance off:

If you didn’t know, Wanderable is a super fab online resource for the chic, modern couple who values experiences over things. Their site allows you to register for custom experiences, rather than the standard gift, and we love the idea! In fact, Wanderable is offering a $20 credit if you sign up by clicking here! So great, right?

Michelle and Julian were married at Catalina’s in Sydney, Australia. With a view that overlooked the water, the pair invited family and friends to join them for their sunset vows and a gorgeous party after–which the bride tells us was a little inspired by a 90’s dance revival with tons of color and plenty of glow sticks bracelets to go around once the dancing started! We absolutely love all the fun of this wedding, shot by Nerida McMurray Photography.

What made the wedding special and unique?

For us, our wedding was a party. We decided to do our photos before the ceremony so we could maximise the amount of time we had to spend with our guests. We decided on a sunset ceremony at Catalina to capture the gorgeous view as dusk rolled in.

www.neridamcmurray.com.au0411 087 040

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

I found my dress at Lisa Gowing. It was love at first sight! I had only tried two dresses on before finding my dress but knew I didn’t have to look further. I left the boutique and called my Mum and best friend and told them they had to come and see it for the final tick of approval.

What were some touches added to make it personal?

We added personalised touches to our whole wedding, including naming our tables after ski runs in Aspen where we got engaged, and the boys wore customised cufflinks in the shape of aspen leaves. We used bright, vibrant flowers to represent the joy we felt and danced the night away with a 90s dance music revival – with glow stick bracelets for guests to share.

www.neridamcmurray.com.au 0411 087 040

What was the most memorable part of the day?

Our wedding dance! We’d sweated over the dance, hoping to get it right. Thankfully we pulled it off without any mistakes!

Tell us how you met and became engaged.

We met in July 2009 on RSVP! You could say that online dating is not the most romantic way to start a relationship but we realised how right we were for each other from very early on. We ended up getting engaged in Aspen, Colorado in February 2013. Julian proposed one evening as we shared another memorable trip to our favourite destination (we have been to Aspen every year we have been together).

Today’s feature shot by This Love of Yours at Villa Montalvo (which is a venue that looks like it is in Italy–but NO!–it is in California!) is none other than absolute romance, thanks to the styling genius of Honey & Twine, with florals by Tango & Foxtrot and gorgeous calligraphy by our very own Grey Collective member, Curlicue Design. We know you are are going to love!

Before we sign off, we thought we’d leave you with the words that Curlicue Designs etched onto the stationery:

Today, we are inviting MaeMae & Co. to start the week off for us with a tutorial that we are crazy excited about: “How to use a mood board.” MaeMae is the queen of genius inspiration boards, and she’s getting down and dirty with us on how to utilize that inspiration to help your design process–think wedding design or invitation design–these tips are crazy helpful! Take it away, MaeMae!

malek_moodboard

Creating a mood or inspiration board (both digitally and physically) is an important part of our design process at MaeMae & Co. It sets the tone for the entire project, and acts as a guide as we move through designing each element of the project. However, if you’ve never worked with a mood board before, we realize that the concept can be a bit confusing. Next time you work with a creative who is using a mood board (or next time you make one for yourself!), keep these two tips in mind:

maemae_mood_method_9

1. It’s all about the feeling: The point of an inspiration board is to create a visual vibe for your project. It is not a place to nail down specifics like exact fonts or images, but rather think of it as creating a world that your brand, website or wedding stationery would live in.

When making a mood board, we focus on defining the color scheme, texture and graphics that best represents the project’s world. Rather than copying those inspirational images exactly, we use them to guide our design choices and find or create similar graphics for your unique project. For example, if we include an photograph of roses and an etched wreath in a mood board – we may combine those two visuals and create a vintage wreath made of roses for the project’s monogram.

maemae_moodboard

2. But, you won’t get what you don’t see: While an inspiration board is about the vibe of the project, we do follow the visuals closely when designing. For example, if there are blocky fonts paired with a vintage script in a mood board – don’t expect to see modern calligraphy in the first design proof. We always encourage our clients to point out anything in the mood board that they feel is missing. So if they have their heart set on modern calligraphy, we always edit the inspiration board to include an image that represents their request. Similarly, if there is something on the mood board that a client isn’t digging, we’ll remove the image and replace it with one that better reflects their idea.

Check out our mood + method blog series, and follow us on instagram for more inspiration!

What made the wedding special and unique?

Our day was special because of the people who were a part of it. Not only were we surrounded by 175 of our closest family and friends, but the majority of our wedding vendors were friends as well. Our planner, photographer, musician, chef and venue owners were all good friends of ours, and it meant so much to have a special connection with those who were a part of planning and executing our special day. Gorgeous weather, a lovely venue, delicious food, stringing lights, dancing, and a full moon also contributed to our perfect day.

lago-guiseppe-winery-orange-purple-wedding-2 lago-guiseppe-winery-orange-purple-wedding-3

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

I never thought I would love wedding dress shopping as much as I did. We went to two bridal salons, Mon Amie in Costa Mesa and Love and Lace in Irvine. I ended up finding two that I loved, but decided on the first gown that I tried on, which was at Mon Amie. I loved the lace detail on the dress and I accessorized it with a crystal sash that was my favorite addition.

What were some touches added to make it personal?

Mike and I created a fun wine menu based on wines that have a special significance to us. Mike also designed all of our chalkboard signs… I was so impressed! Our planner, Vanessa from Vanessa Noel Event, inspired me (and also did a majority of the work) to make tie-died napkins, which i thought was a fun touch. Our flowers were also stunning! Lori Boe did a fabulous job of turning my very vague description of “pops of color” into an amazing display of flowers.

What was the most memorable part of the day?

We both really wanted to enjoy our day, take it all in and enjoy every moment of it, because we knew it would go by way to fast. Some of our highlights of the day were catching each others eyes as I walked down the aisle, taking a moment to look down from the top of the hill to watch everyone enjoying themselves, dancing like crazy with our friends and family, and our late night acoustic music, port and cigar session. The fact that not one but two people ripped their pants that night, I figured that’s a sign of a good party!

Tell us how you met and became engaged.

Mike and I met at JUSTIN winery in Paso Robles, where he was the Tasting Room Manager at the time. I was having lunch with my family on our way to Morro Bay. Mike happened to be pouring wine for us, so we started chatting with him and I could tell that he really enjoyed talking to us and getting to know us. I felt the same way about him. As we were leaving the tasting room, Mike handed me his business card and hinted that I should contact him next time I’m in the area (I was living in San Diego at the time). I sent Mike an email to reach out to him, we started talking on the phone, and a month later we went on our first date while he was visiting his family in Orange County.

Two years later, Mike and I were in Yosemite with my family right before Christmas. I thought my Mom had planned a family scavenger hunt around Yosemite, so I played along with it. Little did I know, it was all part of Mike’s plan to get me in front of Half Dome so that he could propose to me. It was a perfect day and we celebrated with champagne and an amazing dinner.

Stacy and Edwin are both pharmacists, so naturally when it came time for CCL Weddings & Events to help plan and design their wedding, it made sense to include a few fun details that were a nod to the bride and groom’s career. Obviously you know how much we love personal details so it’s no surprise how much we love everything about their gorgeous wedding at Fig House. One of our all time favorite photographers, Braedon Photography is responsible for all of these beautiful images, so of course it is a major love fest over here today!

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

Both dresses were custom made by Dawn at Atelier in Los Angeles, CA. I really wanted a fun, blush wedding gown. Dawn designed the wedding gown which was really light and whimsical and blended the color so it had just a hint of pink. I wanted a belt for the dress and she beaded the beautiful gold studded belt to make the dress unique.

What made the wedding special and unique?

It started with us falling in love with our venue, The Fig House. The vibrant colors and the retro furniture were just a few things that made it feel like the perfect place for our special night. Edwin’s brother designed animation characters of us and it was detailed throughout our wedding. Guests were given pins with each of our animations to wear to represent which side of the wedding they came from. Our favorite drink(grapefruit izze) was labeled with a personal label and given to guests as a welcome beverage. PharmacieLA served our guests a variety of tasty cocktails and drinks during the reception and Whoa! Nelly catering did a fantastic job with the appetizers and family-style dinner. All of this with our concept executed by Catherine and her team made it an unforgettable night for us.

What were some touches added to make it personal?

We are both HUGE foodies and wanted our guests to know where our favorite places to eat were in Los Angeles. We included in our invitations a map of our favorite places to eat since most of my family traveled from Hawaii and we wanted them to explore what LA has to offer. We also had our favorite desserts at our wedding: Carmela ice cream and Churros by Salinas. Catherine made it even more personal for us by adding the Pharmacy theme since we are both pharmacists. Our guests name cards were made out of old-fashioned pharmacy bottles that looked absolutely exquisite and the flowers that went in them made it even more delightful.

What was the most memorable part of the day?

As soon as the reception began, our guests couldn’t wait to come up and congratulate us. We had a sweetheart table and one by one, our friends and family came up and it made us feel overwhelmingly loved. Our photographer Braedon didn’t miss a beat and had everyone who came up pose for a picture so that we could capture a moment with our loved ones. Even though we had arranged to take pictures with our guests later in the evening, this made it even more special since it was all improvised.

Tell us how you met and became engaged.

We met through our mutual friend Boram who felt that we were perfect for each other. She actually arranged for our friends to get together one night just so we could meet. We didn’t know her intentions at first but when we met a second time, we didn’t need her assistance as we naturally just clicked and were drawn to each other. When we started dating we realized our friend was right about us. We both share a similar sense of humor as we both make each other laugh constantly and even have the same taste in the art of music. We also love to eat and explore new places to dine at and its been fun sharing those experiences together. We even get to share our rants about work, although unfortunate at times, since we are both Pharmacists. Since we are self-proclaimed Foodies, it was only appropriate to get engaged while sharing a delightful dinner and dessert at one of our favorite restaurants, Osteria Mozza in Los Angeles. I have a major sweet tooth and was shocked that dessert was coming even though we didn’t order anything. When I read the words “Will You Marry Me” on the plate, I clearly thought the restaurant made a mistake, but after I saw my name “Stacy” on the bottom and Edwin getting on one knee, I couldn’t believe what was happening!
