Mai and Aaron first met in an organic chemistry class in college and after a few conversations, they instantly bonded. They chose to have their wedding at the beautiful ROYAL OAKS COUNTRY CLUB where the couple fell in love with the scenery. The couple personalized their wedding with neat geometric shapes and hints of nerdy Zelda references (see if you can spot them). We’re obsessed with the fresh and summery palette of pale aqua and bright yellow! This is absolutely the happiest of weddings, but with POMP AND CIRCUMSTANCE as the design team behind the big day, it’s no surprise! Kimberly Chau Photography captured all these gorgeous images, and we know you’ll love!

What made the wedding special and unique?

One thing that made the wedding special and unique is that it reflects Aaron’s and my personality in the truest way. Aaron is a geek and I’m the kind of non-traditional lady who wants to share everything with him so we got some Zelda accessories for Aaron and I let Aaron help me pick out my wedding dress and reception dress. Yes I took him on wedding dress hunt with me!

Tell us about the dress and where/how you found it!

I got the dress at Misora Bridal Boutique after Aaron told me “This is the one I like the most.” It was a La Sposa dress with white tulle and sequins.

What were some touches added to make it personal?

Definitely the Zelda pin and cuff-links. In addition, the yellow color is Aaron’s all time favorite color. He likes everything yellow. He owns more than ten yellow shirts and countless yellow items so there’s no doubt yellow was the theme of the day!

What was the most memorable part of the day?

The most memorable part of the day is when Aaron said his vows. I almost burst out hearing it. It was very long (almost 5 minutes), sweet and funny at the same time.

Tell us how you met and became engaged

We met each other for the first time in summer 2012 at an Organic Chemistry class at Houston Community College for our schools’ prerequisite. I almost picked another professor and Aaron almost missed the registration deadline but we made it at last. After the class ended we started dating. Aaron’s proposal was nothing fancy or romantic by definition but rather surprising to me. One night before we went to bed he just told me “Baby I want to marry you.” No ring, no flowers or candles or kneeling but I happily accepted knowing I wouldn’t marry anyone but him and he is the one I love, not the ring.

One of our favorite parts about weekends is following our friends’ wedding hashtags on Instagram. Sounds crazy, but it’s so fun to see everything leading up to the events of the big day, and then finally all the highlights captured by wedding guests on the big day! We really love the idea of sharing your custom “wedding hashtag” with guests. Wedding Paper Divas has helped put together for us some perfect “Social Media Tips” for how to communicate with guests your social media preferences. To share or not to share? Here are some ways to beautifully get the message across!

1. Include a mini enclosure card with your invitation to share a hashtag or wedding website you would like your guests to post to. (Or better yet…communicate your wedding hashtag early by including it in your save-the-dates. Family and friends can follow along with your planning process!)

2. Create a special section on your wedding website to provide guests with your social wishes for the big day.

3. Post signs at the wedding ceremony and reception with your hashtag to make it easy for guests to remember when uploading their photos to social media.

Rehearsal dinners are one of our favorite parts of the wedding tradition! If you are having a wedding any bigger than 20 or so people, a rehearsal dinner is the opportunity for you to invite your very nearest and dearest–family and bridal party–to an intimate gathering where toasts and conversation is the aim of the day! It embodies the anticipation of the big day, while allowing the couple to relax in the moment! Today, we are so excited to share Jayme and Josh’s rehearsal dinner at Lycan Conservatory. The couple decided to bring together just twelve guests  a week before the wedding for an extra special event. Cathy and Josiah were a ten year high school reunion set up! What a crazy story! They attended high school together, but it wasn’t until they were reunited after a decade that the pair found their match in each other! Very special thanks to Berrett Photography for sharing this couple’s gorgeous engagement images!

Wedding Blog Cathy and Josiahs Engagement

How they met (in the words of Josiah, the groom-to-be):

It all started about two summers ago when I decided to go to my ten year high school reunion from North Crowley. My friends were talking about my singleness–I wasn’t married or even dating. I had heard that enough before so it didn’t really bother me but before I knew it, they were plotting and scheming about some girl we all went to high school with that was a year younger than me. How they could get her and I to meet? Her name was Cathy. I am always extremely cautious of these kinds of things so I put her thru my usual filter and started asking my friend questions. “Now, is this girl legit? I mean does she love Jesus? I mean doe she really love Jesus, NOT just some cultural, ya I believe in Jesus and go to church kind of thing?” As she started to tell me more about how Cathy was the “REAL DEAL” the more I wanted to get to know her. Then they showed me a picture of her on Facebook. Although her name and face really didn’t ring a bell, there was one thing I did know, “I wanted to get to KNOW HER!” A matter of fact, “I HAVE to get to know her!” I mean come on…how many times do you hear of a beautiful girl that also loves Jesus and wants His will for her life…NOW that’s a game changer my friend.

I contacted her and we set up a time to meet for the first time at her parent’s house. Pulling up to her house that night and walking up the steps to her front door was the start of our last two years of getting to know each other and dating.

Their engagement story:

We left the day after Christmas with some friends for a ski trip in Red River, New Mexico. We both always wanted to get engaged on the beach, but because it was winter there was no beach trip in sight, so I figured the next best thing would be in the mountains.

We made it to the top of the mountain…10,000 foot aerial view of God’s beautiful creation all around us, sunshine, blue sky, a few spotty cotton ball clouds, the smell of pine trees, cool, crisp wind and a couple hot turkey wraps on a cedar table outside on the deck made for the best picnic yet together. As we were coming down the mountain and right before we crossed back over the frozen creek I said, “Hey, Cathy you know what the Bible says about he who finds a wife? It says in Proverbs 18:22 that ‘He who finds a wife, finds a GOOD Thing.’” Just as we crossed over the creek there in rocks read “MARRY ME.” Before I got on the knee I read thru the “Godly Characteristics Of A Woman” we see in Proverbs 31. I told Cathy that even though it was the physical attraction that might have initially drew us to each other, it will be the spiritual attraction that will sustain us for the rest of our lives in marriage and let me tell ya, “that my friends is SEXY. Her sweet and gentle spirit for Jesus and people challenges me daily!

I got on my knee and asked Cathy Elizabeth Gautier to marry me. She said YES, we KISSED, and fireworks lit up the sky as if it was the 4th of July. It was a day we will never forget!

We are on board with blue, ladies! This gorgeous shoot put together by Live View Studios and Rebecca Rose Events  is one for the books! We are seriously obsessed, not only with the color, the style, and the ideas, but also the gorgeous location–River Oaks Charleston–a beautiful home and venue set amid beautiful towering oak trees and dripping southern moss, right on the banks of the Wando River. The inspiration for this shoot came entirely from nature–the organic textures and colors found on land, in the water and the vast blue sky.  Some of the greenery and flowers were foraged from the property and everything was shot just before dusk to capture the warmth and glow of sunlight streaming through the trees, dancing on the water, and spilling over the wooden dock.

Brittany and Tanner are two Clemson grads whose wedding was a a lovely southern soiree at Honey Horn Plantation. The bride wore Augusta Jones and Badgley Mischka and carried an overflowing bouquet of vibrant peonies. The bride’s father, who received deployment orders only a month after the couple’s engagement, was lucky enough to secure leave so he could be at his daughter’s wedding. We just adore Brittany and Tanner’s love of family and their incredibly sweet story that goes along with these gorgeous images by Loren Routhier!

What made the wedding special and unique?

About a month after Tanner and I got engaged, my father was deployed for a year which would mean he would miss the wedding. Luckily he was able to take leave which allowed him to be back for the wedding. So for me, just having my father there to walk me down the aisle and then to celebrate with Tanner and I was incredibly special.

Wedding Blog Brittany and Tanners Wedding at Honey Horn Plantation

Tanner and I both wanted to focus on making the ceremony really reflective of our values and relationship. One way we did this was to incorporate a ring-warming into our ceremony. Prior to the ring exchange, our wedding bands were tied to my mother’s first bible and passed to each guest starting with my mother and ending with Tanner’s mother. As the rings were passed, each guest was asked to say a prayer or blessing for our marriage. We loved knowing that by the time the rings made it to us they were filled with the love and blessings of all of our family and friends.

Tell us about your dress and how/where you found it.

Oh my goodness the dress…I am still so obsessed with my dress. Some of my family, my bridesmaids and I all took a weekend trip to Charleston to go dress shopping. I actually ended up finding the dress at the first shop that we visited. I have never been the kind of person to get a “feeling” when I try on dresses and that was true of my wedding dress as well. This made dress shopping a little difficult for me, but all of my family says that they could tell the instant I came out in my dress because instead of looking at them for opinions I couldn’t stop looking at the dress in the mirror. I absolutely loved the delicate lace and scalloped trim on the sweetheart neckline and the around the skirt. I could not be happier with the dress I picked; it is was absolutely beautiful and perfect for me.

What were some touches added to make it personal?

Tanner and I both wanted the wedding to echo our relaxed and fun relationship while honoring the traditions and beauty of the low country of South Carolina. I don’t even know where to start. All of the groomsmen wore boutonnieres made from palmetto sweetgrass roses crafted by local artists in the low country. This touch was not only beautiful but it allowed us to honor the history and people of the low-country.

We were also able to incorporate our own handiwork and the handiwork of family and friends. Tanner built a beautiful bar that really fit and accentuated our venue. Also, we were gifted a beautiful and rustic Cornhole yard game set that was a fun addition to our cocktail hour and reception. Additionally, my mother made all the favors for the wedding which were little handmade bags full of grits complete with a family recipe for low-country shrimp and grits.

Tanner is also an avid outdoorsman and was really excited to have his own little touches on the wedding. Some of his favorites were: the guinea feather Brackish bowtie that he wore, the shotgun shell cufflinks that he gifted his groomsmen, and his wedding band that has deer antler incorporated into it.

One of my favorite touches of the wedding day involves our wedding monogram which is BLT. During our cocktail hour we had several southern style passed hors d’oeuvres including mini bacon lettuce and tomato sandwiches that were decorate with a flag bearing our wedding monogram. I loved being able to embrace our wedding monogram in such a unique and fun way.

We absolutely adored all of the special touches that we were able to weave throughout the ceremony and reception, they helped make the day truly reflect us both.

The day as a whole was absolutely perfect and there are so many moments that we will both cherish forever, but for both of us one of our favorites was when were introduced for the first time as a couple at the end of the ceremony. Hearing our names together with the same last name for the first time was a special moment we will both cherish forever.

Tell us how you met and became engaged.

Tanner and I met in January of 2011 at a birthday party for a friend. We ended up sitting beside each other at dinner and hit it off immediately. By the end of the night we had exchanged phone numbers and a few short weeks later we were officially a couple.

Tanner knew that I wanted to be surrounded by our family and closest friends when we got engaged, but he needed some kind of cover to get all of our family and friends together. Turns out my graduation from Clemson University provided him with the perfect opportunity. One of my favorite Clemson traditions is having an alumni “turn” your ring to face the world after you graduate. I thought it would be special to have Tanner turn my ring in front of Howard’s Rock at Clemson’s Memorial Stadium. So, after the ceremony we made our way to the football stadium where Tanner hurriedly turned my Clemson ring and quickly proceeded to drop to one knee for the most perfect proposal. We then had a celebratory dinner with all of our family. It meant the world to both of us that we were able to celebrate such a milestone with our family and friends.
