Lara and Brandon’s wedding was all about bringing family together. The bride, Lara tells us, “Since Brandon’s family is from Memphis and mine is from Caracas, the ceremony was performed half in Spanish and half in English. We also held the reception at my parents’ house, where Brandon’s family tried Venezuelan food for the first time. Several mojitos later, we all ended up jumping in the pool! It was the most fun I’ve ever had.” Well, we could not be any more excited to share such a gorgeous wedding! We know you are going to LOVE these photos by Erika Delgado Photography and the classic, laid back loveliness of Lara and Brandon’s gorgeous day!
Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!
I actually found my dress in the unlikeliest of places – online! The day after I was engaged, one of my friends sent me a link to an ivory J. Crew gown. At the time, I wasn’t looking for dresses yet but I ordered it on the spot. It’s the gown I ended up wearing – it was simple, romantic, and reminded me of Romeo & Juliet. It also had pockets which I loved.
What were some touches added to make it personal?
I wore my grandmother’s veil for the wedding which was not only incredibly beautiful, but special. We also used the ring pillow from my parents’ wedding – they’ve been married for 35 years!
What was the most memorable part of the day?
My favorite part of the day was probably saying our vows – we had memorized them the night before and were pretty nervous. After we finished stumbling through, we high-fived.
Tell us how you met and became engaged.
Brandon and I met while we were first year graduate students at UC Berkeley – we were both participating in Bay to Breakers, a costume party/parade across San Franciso, and bonded over our mutual love of NBA basketball. Brandon surprised me with a midnight proposal while we were celebrating the holidays in Florida with my family – the next morning we opened champagne and celebrated over breakfast.
