I want to become a society lady Rockin' a new rock?!

Ashley and Blake hosted their family and friends at the ever so lovely Hammersky Vineyards in Paso Robles, California. Family and friends to traveled from all over California to the centrally located venue in order to celebrate the pair, who come from from San Francisco and Los Angeles. We are suckers for the perfect black tie wedding, and this one has all the elegance that we love about a wine country wedding in California. Of course it helps tremendously that these images were taken by JL Photographers, who captured the event so beautifully. This classic wedding is one for the books, friends!

What made the wedding special and unique?

Our wedding was truly ours, together we planned every detail for our wonderful guests. We had several things we knew were important to us and we made sure that they became a reality; the most critical being the setting. Because I went to college in the San Francisco Bay area (University of California, Berkeley) and Blake went to college in Los Angeles (University of Southern California) we would often meet in between the two cities. When we were ready to choose a wedding venue, it felt appropriate to select a site that mirrored this meet-me-half-way idiom that we had come to live by. We had never visited Paso Robles until searching for venues for the most important day of our lives, but when we arrived at Hammersky Vineyards and saw all of the natural charm and beauty, we instantly knew this serene place was the perfect setting to share with our closest friends and family for our wedding day!

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

Finding the perfect dress was very difficult for me. Not because I didn’t like any of the dresses, I liked them all! I had dreamt about my own wedding dress since I was a little girl and my mom altered her own gown to fit me so I could play “wedding”. There’s a beautiful wedding gown boutique in Corona Del Mar, The White Dress, that I’d passed by growing up that always had the most beautiful gowns displayed in the window. My future mother-in-law, Alice urged me to stop in with her and my mom to try on dresses at the boutique. As fate would have it, The White Dress had my perfect white dress, as soon as I put it on my mom cried. The dress had to be soft and romantic to be in line with our vineyard wedding and I wanted it to have lace like my mom’s wedding dress had. The Pronovias gown featured layers of lace on tulle that created the most beautiful depth of the dress. We had it altered to a sweetheart top at The Velvet Hanger in Newport Beach.

What were some touches added to make it personal?

The most personal part of the day was a surprise to everyone, including our bridal party. Because of our history together with music we decided to take the stage with our band to perform an acoustic version of Bob Dylan’s “Forever Young” for our guests. Our brilliant band, Stir Father, who later kept the dance floor filled to capacity, played along with us for a special surprise for all of our guests. We wanted to share something really personal and intimate with our family and friends that day that was critical to our past, present and future together.

What was the most memorable part of the day?

The most memorable part of the day was the ceremony. On the lawn underneath Hammersky Vineyards’ three hundred year old oak tree, Blake and I saw each other for the first time that day. We spent countless hours writing the ceremony together and to see it come to life in front of our loved ones as the sun shined brightly and a soft breeze blew was the most incredible moment of our lives. We started our marriage with a wine blending ceremony and signing of a bible past down from my grand-parents to my parents and now on to us.

Tell us how you met and became engaged.

Blake and I have always been drawn to each other. First as friends, then as a couple and now as husband and wife. We lived only streets apart during our childhood but it wasn’t until we were away at separate colleges that our love began. One winter vacation home from college I wanted to learn how to play the acoustic guitar, I knew Blake would be my perfect teacher. Over our month vacation we spent almost every day together while he patiently tried to teach me his talent. After five years together, Blake surprised me on my birthday. He popped the question at sunset on the roof of his Los Angeles apartment building with friends waiting downstairs to celebrate with us, it was the happiest day of our lives until our wedding the following June!

We think you will too.

If you haven’t already heard, we are so proud to have just launched our Spring Collection of The Mrs. Box–our little wedding heirloom ring boxes made from vintage French velvet. We received an early shipment of some of our favorite colors, which are now available for purchase, with the rest to follow in a few short weeks. We thought you’d love a little sneak peek of what we came up with this time, along with our stylist cohorts, Type A Society. Our dear friends, Jose Villa, along with Joel Serrato, were on hand to shoot these gorgeous images and they always make us look so good. And are you obsessed with those rings as much as we are? You can find them at Trumpet and Horn! And a very special thanks to artists Jenny Sanders of Graceline Art for her watercolor of our wreath and to Lisa Rae of The Dancing Pine for her water color of the lovely Pantone strips. We knew you’d love!

Melissa and Greg’s wedding has really stolen our hearts. It is the absolute perfect combination of unbelievable elegance with enough rustic touches to keep the entire feeling intimate and warm. Of course, it’s no surprise we are obsessed, thanks to photos by one of our all time favorite photographers, Bret Cole.

What made the wedding special and unique?

What I think made our wedding so special was all of our friends and family who joined us on the day. There was so much love in the air and joy in celebrating… Nothing we could have planned for or budgeted for could have taken the place of our gratitude for whom we surround ourselves with.

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

When I pictured what I thought I would be married in, I pictured a strapless lace wedding dress. I tried several of them on and found a beautiful one that I thought would be it! But there was a Monique Lhullier trunk show the following week, and i knew I had to check it out before making a final decision. I took one of my best friends Taylor with me, and as soon as we walked into the store, I was drawn to it. It has this ethereal and free quality to it, but also feels classic and flirty to me all at the same time. When I tried it on, I knew that was how I wanted to feel on my wedding day. (Plus having straps made it easier to dance!) My mom came up the following day to see it for herself, and she loved it and loved me in it, so we went to dinner and celebrated.

What were some touches added to make it personal?

Our reception was in the middle of a redwood grove – the trees were so beautiful and provided some shade on a hot summer day. Greg and I both love to be outside, so having our celebration take place outdoors made it feel more personal and suitable for us as a couple. We also wrote a note that we left at the chair of each of our guests thanking them for their special place in our lives, and explaining that we wouldn’t be where we are today without their relationships and influences.

What was the most memorable part of the day?

The most memorable part of the day was how I felt standing at the altar holding hands with Greg. Knowing that we were going to be officially married just moments later was the most incredible feeling I’ve had. I also have to say that I will never forget my sister’s maid of honor speech and Greg’s brother’s best man speech. Both were spoken so emotionally from the heart, were funny, and so thoughtful – I hope we always live up to be the the people and have the relationship they both described. My sister performed a wedding hula (a surprise to me and also a family tradition!) which took my breath away.

Our dearest friend and crazy favorite designer, MaeMae & Co. has been busy introducing new “characters” to their collection of wedding stationery suites and we are so excited to share three of our favorites to you today! Each set of photos includes a snap of the inspiration board that they used for designing each suite, and it’s so fun to see that inspiration come to life! Are you serious? We are in love.

(Side note: how fun that you can always mix and match colors of any suite. So each one takes on a new persona when you dress him/her up in a new wardrobe. I mean….)

Patti and Christian planned an incredibly romantic wedding at The Prospect Park Boathouse in Brooklyn, NY (one of our all time favorite venues, by the way!). We are obsessed with the classic details and gorgeous colors that Patti chose! Heather Waraksa Photography is an incredible photographer on the top of our list of faves, so it’s no surprise that we’re obsessed with these gorgeous images! With details like that Jenny Packham gown and those florals by Violet and Verde we are seriously doing the happy dance over here!

What made the wedding special and unique?

Ten years ago Christian sat on the back steps of the Prospect Park Boathouse with one of his 1st grade students during a school trip. He asked Christian if he had kids, if he was married and Christian replied saying no to both, but that maybe in the future that would change. Walking down the aisle and saying our vows to each other just steps away from that spot ten years ago was a reminder of our own individual life journeys, which ultimately led us to each other.

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

I was with my mom and sister, who were town for a girls wedding planning weekend, and Gabriella in SoHo was our 3rd stop. I knew I wanted a dress that gave a nod to the past while still being contemporary. Feminine, but not frilly. It had to have character and stand out, but more in the details than the dress overall. Jenny Packham’s ‘Nicole’ definitely fit the bill, I felt incredible in it, and when I saw my mom’s and sister’s expressions, I knew it was the one!

What were some touches added to make it personal?

We met in Brooklyn, fell in love here, and planned to start our lives together in Brooklyn. Half of our guests were from out of town, so it meant so much to us that our family and friends could come see where we live. Plus, you can’t beat Brooklyn in June. Prospect Park was in full bloom, and much to the surprise of our guests, they never imagined such a beautiful place could exist in a big bustling city.

Our wedding was a very intimate affair. Every single person on the guest list played a part in helping us become the people we are today, so as a thank you, we expressed our gratitude in writing on the back of our programs. It was also framed and placed at the entrance. We also made custom tote bags marking that day in Brooklyn for our guests to remember after the wedding.

What was the most memorable part of the day?

The ceremony was by far the most memorable part of the day for us. We felt an overwhelming sense of joy to share the ultimate expression of love and commitment with our family and friends. Seeing the faces of our family and friends as my brother walked me down the aisle to Christian’s father marrying us to cracking up at how nervous we both felt to the moment we kissed and faced the people we loved the most. We felt truly blessed, and it’s a moment we’ll never forget.

Tell us how you met and became engaged.

A summertime bike ride from Greenport to Shelter Island by ferry led us to Sunset Beach, where we escaped an afternoon shower over rosé and nicoise salads. The rain stopped and we decided to take a walk on the beach and luckily for us the rain chased all the beach goers away. It was just us, the beach and a proposal waiting to happen. He stopped, got down on one knee, and asked the question I knew I was born to answer with a yes.
