Oct27 Punch Drunk Love Part One 2011

Sometime last spring, the editors of Southern Weddings Magazine asked me to put together a “Southern by Design” shoot to be featured in their 4th issue. In talking with the editors, they asked us to re-imagine the very southern classic “Cake and Punch” reception. I wrangled my darling/uber talented friend, Cortnie of Canvas and Canopy to help me style a beautiful shoot at Condor’s Nest Ranch! FILM photographer, Braedon Flynn brought his rad skills to the table and we had an absolute blast putting together a party that is both chic and totally doable! (Think of all the money you’ll save with a cake and punch reception instead of chicken and steak!)

red and pink wedding

For our sassy afternoon reception, we selected a short Marchesa gown from Gabriella New York Bridal Salon. For our Kate Middleton inspired headpieces, we enlisted Lo Boheme for custom pieces that added so much personality and spunk! Our hair and make up artist, Kacee Geoffroy helped us accomplish a fresh look with modern pops of color! We completed the looks with gorgeous jewelry created and provided by Noaki Jewelry.

We nabbed really lovely furniture rentals from Urban Barn in Escondido.

pink cake

Old mismatch forks were dipped in paint and we sourced tons of vintage punch bowls and cups from thrift stores! The punch cups served as place cards with calligraphy by Nancy Hopkins. The beautiful cakes were by Erica O’Brien with that ADORABLE “We’ll Have Our Cake and Eat It Too” cake server by Monkeys Always Look (who offers custom design AAAAND has a line coming out with Anthropologie very soon!).

  • Dina @ Honey + Fitz on October 27, 2011

I’m kind of obsessed with EVERYTHING about this. That paper suite is so good is insane and I love the whole concept but my favorite thing is the unmatched forks dipped in paint to unify. That is BRILLIANT. Perfect for any party. Might have to re-blog that bit of genius. Well done!

Those dipped forks ROCK! What kind of paint did you use? Can they be washed?

    • Grey on October 31, 2011

Cortnie did the fork dipping! I think it’s pretty standard Home Depot interior paint. I’d wash them and see if it works!
