Grey Likes Weddings Rockin' a new rock?!

For me, finding the right photographer feels like finding a decent apartment in Manhattan—utterly impossible. It goes without saying that this is my own doing. I’m picky because, if you think about it, your photographs last forever. Photography has always been important to me. While no professional myself, I’ve taken enough courses, worked at enough magazines and seen enough stunning portfolios to have a sincere appreciation for the craft.

It seems pretty insane that of all the items on my wedding to-do list, finding the right photographer is my #1. Even before finding the right dress. Yes, you heard that right, even before the dress. Obviously cost plays a major role and some of my favorite photographers are not only pricey (and rightfully so) but also in different parts of the US, thus requiring travel expenses.

These days, with all of the different software and programs out there it’s so easy to over-edit photos to try to gain a cool factor. While I do love some of the techniques being applied, I want to makes sure that we have some truly beautiful, raw moments captured. I want the photo to be enhanced by editing, not created by it. If that makes sense. I also want a photographer who understands how to balance light well.

So my goal this week is to lock in a photographer and to stop over thinking it. Any and all suggestions welcome. Also, any thoughts on the importance of finding a photographer? Am I placing too much weight on it?

In the meantime, we’ve almost locked in our venue. Fingers crossed.

Here is a delightful photo of my Matron of Honor on her big day. I love the airy, light quality captured.
