We are continuing with our new “international” series to share with you more weddings from around the world! Michelle and Jacques planned an incredibly beautiful and romantic wedding in South Africa, a location which traveled from all parts of the world to reach! The couple, both being architects, chose a modern classic look for the details of the day and chose to hire fine art photographer, Genevieve Fundaro Photography (who shoots not only in Africa, but internationally!) to capture the day in an elegant fashion. We just adore Jacques and Michelle’s style and know you classic brides will too!
What made the wedding special and unique?
It was the most incredible, intimate weekend getaway, where we were able to spend quality time with our closest friends and family – a once in a lifetime experience. Certain guests traveled from around the world to meet us in one of the most beautiful parts of South Africa to share in our special day. It was a weekend filled with family and friendships both old and new, love and laughter, remembrance and new memories.
Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!
The gown is a St Patrick design from Delavida. I wanted something that suited who I was; nothing too flashy and big and bold, but something elegant and unique. I wanted something that that made me feel beautiful and something that I knew would light up Jacques’ eyes when he saw me in it. The moment I stepped into my dress, I didn’t want to take it off again!
What were some touches added to make it personal?
Everything about the weekend was designed around great food – the perfect opportunity for all our guests to chat and get to know each other. As architects, we wanted a wedding style of modern elegance, from the venue right down to the décor, details, food and program. We put great effort into planning our weekend to ensure it ran smoothly for everyone’s enjoyment.
What was the most memorable part of the day?
The moment we saw each other in the chapel – it was like time stood still and everything else faded into the background, where the two of us were the only thing in focus. At that moment, all the stress and nerves leading up to that point disappeared and all that way left was pure joy, happiness, love and excitement at seeing each other.
Why did you choose your photographer, what about them/their images made you want them for your day?
We have always loved the idea of a photographer who can capture a moment with emotion as opposed taking a stiff and structured photo. Gen’s ability to capture the most intimate moments between a couple, a group of friends, or family members is an incredible gift and we simply couldn’t pass up the chance to have her document our wedding day. Her unique style characterised by subdued tones, soft light, and a diverse range of compositions spoke to us and our interests in both art and photography. Each and every photo she has taken in not only unique in character, but also captures a very special moment that we will remember forever.
Tell us how you met and became engaged.
After years of friendship, our love for each other evolved into something much deeper and more meaningful than we could have ever imagined. At a moment of clarity our lives changed forever. All of a sudden, we could not imagine our futures without each other; everything we did and accomplished was with the other in mind. Our relationship has grown from strength to strength; true companionship, love, friendship, trust and support have led us to this special day. We cannot wait to see what life has in store for us in our future together.
