I want to become a society lady Rockin' a new rock?!

Katie and David’s wedding day was nestled in the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina with a ceremony space that will take your breath away. The styling and florals of Kate Asire Flowers bring the celebration to life with draped greenery and abundant arrangements and bouquets. The white tent reception at Claxton Farm Inc was light and bright and just, plain happy! We love the smiles of the couple and all the adorable details captured in the lovely style of Jessi Nichols Photography.

What made the wedding special and unique?

After being together for a total of five years, finally getting to the wedding day and seeing how beautifully everything turned out was amazing. We had friends and family fly in from so many states and even another country, which was incredible. The venue itself was breathtaking – I loved how natural and laid back everything felt without being too casual. It truly was the most joyful day!

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

I originally went dress shopping with my mom and aunt, and we visited several local places while they were in town. Although I really liked a couple that I tried, I wasn’t sure I had found the one yet. A few weeks later, my friend and bridesmaid was in town staying with me for the weekend, and we went back to the first store, Carolina Traditions, really more as something fun to do while she was in town. She ended up picking out a beautiful dress for me to try, and I knew right away it was exactly what I was looking for!

What were some touches added to make the wedding personal?

We got married in front of a huge wooden cross that our florist, Kate Asire, had draped with a beautiful garland made of greenery and flowers. That, along with a hand-lettered sign a friend made for us with Song of Solomon 3:4 were the sweetest reminders of what the day was all about.

What was the most memorable part of the day?

There are a couple of things that stand out – David and I did a first look under a willow tree right beside a pond that was just down from our ceremony site. We both were pretty anxious all day but as soon as we saw each other, we felt relaxed and excited about the rest of the day. It was such a sweet moment to be able to share a few minutes together alone before the ceremony. Second, the ceremony was outdoors, and the weather started looking ominous right as the guests were arriving. It began drizzling as I was walking down the aisle, and although David and I hardly noticed, everyone told us later that they were collectively holding their breath and praying it would stop! Luckily it calmed down and actually held off until right after the ceremony, when it started pouring and the wind started blowing like crazy.

Tell us how you met and became engaged.

David and I both went to Clemson University, and although we had many mutual friends, we never met while he was in school (he was a year ahead of me). We met in Clemson a couple of weeks before I graduated when he was back in town for an alumni weekend. We dated for almost four years after that before he proposed on the beach during a New Year’s trip to Miami. I later found out that he had taken his mom and my best friend ring shopping back in November, and since we had to drive separately to Miami for New Year’s, he drove a few hours out of the way to take my dad to lunch and ask for his blessing. I was completely clueless about all of this, so it was the biggest surprise when he popped the question! :)
