What made the wedding special and unique?

The wedding was so unique to us because we were able to incorporate my Indian traditions, while still having my cousin and one of Jeremy’s closest friends marry us. It was absolutely the best of both worlds. To also be able to have it take place in our favorite place, Naples, FL, was a dream come true.

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

My gown was designed in Bombay, India. I had a vision of what I wanted and was able to create it in tandem with the designer. I can’t decide which outfit I liked the best, but they were all beautiful in their own way!

What were some touches added to make the wedding personal?

Having my cousin officiate the wedding was something very special to me. I also loved the fact that we got married in Naples. Growing up, I moved so many times in my life and Naples is the one place that has been a constant for the past 10 years of my life. This is also a place that Jeremy and I started visiting early on in our relationship. I am so grateful that we can continue visiting this wonderful place as we grow together.

What was the most memorable part of the day?

One of the best memories I have is watching the Barrat from the balcony with ALL 18 of my bridesmaids. The second I heard the beat of the drum, my heart started to pound – it was as if I just realized I was actually getting married that day! Of course there are so many other memories, but that is one that I will never forget.

Tell us how you met and became engaged.

Jeremy and I met in Cabo San Lucas, MX when I was only 20 years old! I was down there on spring break, when I happened to come across Jeremy. Although he also attended Michigan State University, he was actually down there interning at a hotel. We met through mutual friends, however I never thought in a million years that he would actually be my future husband. Fast forward seven years later, we moved to New York City and he proposed in Gramercy Park – one of the only private parks in the city – a day I will remember forever.

YOU GUYS. This color palette is amazing! Deep reds and bright reds, dusty pink and lavender all come together in the incredibly romantic details of Melissa and Carson’s wedding day at Silver Oaks Chateau. The florals and design by An Affair to Remember are beyond gorgeous—we’re especially loving the floral arbor and stunning bouquet. There’s a relaxed elegance to the couple’s intimate celebration that we’re super into and lucky for us Mike Cassimatis Photography was on hand to capture everything in his signature film style. You’re going to love it!

What made the wedding special and unique?

There were so many special touches that made our day one-of-a-kind, but the one thing that tied it all together was our beautiful venue. While we first considered a destination wedding, once I found Silver Oaks Chateau tucked away just miles from where we grew up, we agreed it was the perfect place to gather all of our loved ones. It was elegant yet intimate, allowing us to have an outdoor ceremony and indoor reception, with guests spilling onto the courtyard at night to enjoy the fireplace, lawn games and live music. The chateau created the exact atmosphere we were looking for, and meant that all of our family and friends could celebrate with us — something that may not have happened if we decided to host it out-of-town.

My family previously lived in Chicago, so I knew I wanted to make a trip back to find the perfect dress. I found my gown at Mira Couture — and it was so unique from all of the others I tried on. I simply knew when I put it on and was so comfortable — and then saw my dad and sisters tearing up!

What were some touches added that made the wedding personal?

Our faith is paramount in our relationship, so we were honored to have Carson’s father, our pastor, officiate the ceremony. We also incorporated many ways of celebrating my late mother — I had her portrait in the bridal suite while getting ready, a locket with her photo on my bouquet and parts of her wedding band incorporated in my rings. And finally — we are obsessed with doughnuts, so we had a tower of our favorites from a local bakery in lieu of a traditional cake.

What was the most memorable part of the day?

Without a doubt, the most cherished part of our day was reading our vows to each other surrounded by dear friends and family. We always knew that we’d want to personalize our vows, incorporating meaningful scripture and memories as we dedicate our lives to each other. It felt like time was standing still!

Tell us how you met and became engaged.

Carson and I met through mutual friends, and after a year of constantly hanging out with the group, the spark between us was undeniable. He finally asked me out and we dated for the next six years, overcoming many stints of long distance during and after college. In 2015, Carson planned a Fourth of July trip to Vail, Colorado — a spot we often vacationed at that has a special meaning to us both. After taking me horseback riding through an Aspen forest, we arrived at Piney Lake — where he got down on one knee! The ring he designed includes gold from my late mother’s wedding band, and a family heirloom diamond that I simply adore.

Lindsay and Arthur’s wedding at the The Fig House is a wonderful blend of vintage and modern with a touch of winter holiday. Never a visually dull moment at the colorful venue, the couple’s planner Pop the Champagne Events complimented the space with red roses and green garlands by M’s Flowers. Cute touches like gilded dinoaours on the tablescapes and a shiny gold ceremony structure kept things playful and fun while the bride’s Oscar de la Renta gown and vintage fur stole added vintage glamour. Grey Collective member Woodnote Photography knoked it out of the park capturing all the moments of the day, along with some stunning fine art portraits of the couple.

How did the two of you meet?

We met in 2004 through mutual friends as Lindsay was just finishing high school. She moved to Oregon and we remained good friends until one fateful road trip in 2011. We started dating long distance, and at the time, we said in a year we would evaluate and maybe someone would move. 6 months (and a LOT of early morning flights) later we were on another road trip moving Lindsay back to Southern California.

Any DIY projects you were especially proud of?

The favors! They were a real team effort between both of us, Lindsay’s brother (a groomsman) and his wonderful girlfriend (a bridesmaid). Christmas Crackers are a big tradition in Lindsay’s family, so early on I knew I wanted to do something that was a nod to that. For months our friends and family saved empty paper towel rolls, we splatter painted the paper ourselves, and assembly-lined them over the long Thanksgiving weekend. We filled them with a tiny bottle of Belvedere Vodka and these amazing chocolates called Prince Polos, which were both a nod to Arthur’s Polish heritage. We also made tiny gold dinosaur magnets to include that tied into some of our decor details. I love visiting our friends homes and seeing them on the fridge!

Do you have any stories to share from the day?

We wanted to keep our ceremony a little condensed so we stuck with classic vows, but friends had given us the idea to share our own vows privately. The morning of our wedding we both got up early and wrote each other a letter including more personal thoughts and vows. We sneaked away from the reception for a short while to read them together and it was a really wonderful moment together.

Any advice for future brides/grooms currently planning their wedding?

I had a really hard time being overwhelmed in the beginning, but get the big things out of the way and everything else falls into place. It’s also super cliche, but everyone has an opinion. In the end no one is going to remember everything except you, so have the day you want!

If Arthur hasn’t answered any of these questions-does he have a memorable moment?

Arthur was awesome and actually helped with some of the questions, but he does have this to say: My most memorable moment was the first kiss. Not because I want to make out in front of all our family, but because my initial idea was to keep it very simple and clean. I absolutely hate getting lipstick on me, so that had some bearing on my decision, but after seeing Lindsay walk down that aisle, it all went out the window. I ended up just going for it and destroyed my face with lipstick.

What made the wedding special and unique?

We wanted a day we would always look look back with a full heart and smile at such a beautiful day. It was so special marrying my best friend surrounded by all of our loved ones that traveled near and far. I loved getting married around Christmas…simply magical!

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

I researched and researched wedding designers for days, and found several that I was drawn to. I knew I wanted something different, chic, and unique, but still elegant and classic. My mom and sisters drove to Houston and had appointments throughout the day. Mia Bridal was featuring a new designer, Alon Livne, where I tried on all of his GORGEOUS gowns. This is where I fell in love with the dress that was perfect for me and my wedding and I know I will always look back and LOVE my dress.

What were some touches added to make it personal?

Some of my favorite things about my wedding were the little details. Doug is not the biggest fan of cake, but he loves oysters. I replaced the typical groom’s cake with an oyster bar, which he loved! We also had caricature artists for the guests to enjoy. I loved looking at everyone’s drawings and seeing all the love at our wedding. We did not have enough time to sit down and have one done of us, but our sweet and thoughtful wedding planner made that happen for us! We treasure that drawing and hold it very dear to our hearts. Getting married during Christmas season also allows for so many festive and fun ideas to come to life; we had a beautiful Christmas tree at the entrance that had our favors hanging on the tree for our guests, which were ornaments for them to take home with them to remember the day. We also had the most fun getaway: After our ribbon departure, we hopped in an old vintage, baby blue Jolly with Santa as our chauffeur.

What was the most memorable part of the day?

The most memorable part of the day was saying our vows during the ceremony. St. Charles Church holds a special place in my heart with its vintage romantic feel. The church was crowded with our loved ones and guests, but during the vows I felt like it was just me and Doug alone in a magical place expressing our love and lifelong commitment. The lighting and the softness of the atmosphere made it more special, as if we were in a fairy tale. It was, by far, the best moment of the day!

Tell us how you met and became engaged.

My brother-in-law, Joe, came home from a business trip ten years ago announcing that he met my future husband. I didn’t think much about it at the time, since Doug lived all the way across the country at the time. Years passed and brother-in-law eventually hired him, and Doug moved to Lafayette. When he moved here, he bought a house and hired me to be his decorator and help him renovate his house. During this process Joe continued to make things very awkward for Doug and I so we ended up pushing each other away. That very summer they needed extra help in the office, where Doug and I both realized for ourselves our feelings for each other. We began dating in secret, or so we thought, to get passed the awkward stage without Joe’s pestering, but everyone knew the whole time. I guess you cannot deny the connection between us. We were engaged 5 and a half months later when Doug surprisingly popped the question as he recreated our first date. It was sweet, simple, and very personal. I never imagined growing up how I would be proposed to, but if I did, it would be the exact same way.

Nothing gives a wedding visual gravitas like a historic venue and Caitlyn and David’s wedding at the James J. Hill Center in Saint Paul, MN is proof of just that. The grand 1920’s library set the tone for the couple’s winter soirée which included subtle nods to the literary theme like little Scout Book favors tied up in string and wax seals and calligraphy bookmark escort cards. The color palette of emerald, leaf green, mint and gray is an unexpected—and totally inspiring—winter palette and the pops of red in the florals by Maven Styling add romance. Lucky for us, Grey Collective member and amazing photographer, Jaimee Morse, was on hand to capture the historical intrigue and delightful details of Caitlyn and David’s bug day.

What made the wedding special and unique?

Our wedding was very special as we have been together long-distance for some time while David was in grad school in a different state. The planning process was that much more difficult, but it was so special to finally be together with our friends and families to enjoy the day we had looked forward to for so long.

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it?

My gown was exactly what I had pictured I wanted to wear. I found it at Posh Bridal Couture on my second trip to try dresses. I had gone back and forth debating over a fit-and-flare (not what I had expected at all) at another shop and made an appointment at Posh last minute after seeing an ad for a trunk show. Once I tried the dress I knew I should stick with what I had always wanted instead of making an unexpected decision that wasn’t as ‘me.’

What were some touches added to make the wedding personal?

One of my favorite details were the favors – little Scout Books tied up in string with our initials printed on them. I liked that the library/books theme was woven throughout without being too obvious. Our escort cards were calligraphy on bookmarks, and we worked a lot of leaves and greenery in throughout the invitations and decor. Our venue itself was also a personal touch, as we met in college, I was an English major, and David is currently in grad school, so the library seemed like a perfect choice!

Tell us how you met and became engaged.

We met in college, but it wasn’t until we both had graduated that we reconnected and started dating. We got engaged at the botanical gardens in Madrid where David was studying abroad for the summer.
