Bride Coline attributes the uniqueness of her wedding day to Matthieu as stemming from “the marriage of two families from two very different cultures.” She’s from Guadeloupe, a French island in the Caribbean. He’s from Corsica, a French island in the Mediterranean and the couple’s intimate island nuptials are totally fitting. Coline wears a stunning two piece gown by Rime Arodaky and a chapel on the hills of Murato provides a breathtaking ceremony location. A relaxed, organic reception features florals by L’Orchidée Bastia and a traditional French cake by Maison Salge. What made your wedding special and unique?
What made our wedding unique was the marriage of two families from two very different cultures; that, mixed with all of our travels from different parts of the world. Whether it be through the food, decorations, cocktails or music we brought to our wedding a piece of our respective cultures and of each of our travels.
Also, we wanted to stick to our traditional cultures but also include our family in our wedding preparation and ceremony. Matthieu’s dad sang the traditional Corsican songs during our ceremony, and that was one of the most touching moments for us.
Apart from that, my favorite part of the wedding would have to be the brunch because it was a really fun day with zero stress. And I was able to really spend time with friends and family I hadn’t seen in a long time.
How did you meet?
We met on my home-island, Guadeloupe, while I was back for holidays and Matthieu was doing an internship. We were at a beach party, I had some friends from France over and Matthieu was with his colleagues. Guadeloupe is such a small island that I had already noticed their group because I didn’t know who they were and Matthieu was wearing his glasses, with sunglass clipons flipped on his forehead! A party was taking place the next weekend on another island and my friends and I were looking for a ride (on a boat). They came over and talked to us and invited us on their boat for the next weekend and that’s how it all started.
