I want to become a society lady Rockin' a new rock?!

Heidi Ryder is at again with these absolutely lovely images from Taryn and Nick’s wedding day at Westlake Village Inn. The couple are high-school sweethearts who always felt their wedding day was inevitable, so the event-planner-mother-of-the-bride had plenty of time (we’re talking years) to gather inspiration and ideas for a spectacular celebration. We love all the beautiful, personalized details of the day, especially the amazing florals (everywhere!) and the beautiful tented reception design. We’re know you guys are going to be as inspired by this one as we are!

What made the wedding special and unique?

The most unexpected part of our wedding was that it took place on my 25th birthday. I never intended to share my wedding anniversary with my birthday, but it does make for one less date for my husband to remember.

As Nick and I had been together since early high school, it always felt as though our wedding day was inevitable. This gave my mom, an event planner, and me plenty of time to discuss wedding details. From the moment I called my mom to tell her we were officially engaged, it was game time. All of the photos of flowers, dresses, linens, embroidery designs and color schemes we liked we neatly filed away at my childhood home. I knew I wanted a romantic, warm and inviting style without appearing to be over the top. I even had my own “Franck” a la Father of the Bride, and he created the most beautiful flower arrangements for our wedding which tied everything together. The three of us collaborated to bring my dream wedding to life.

We held the wedding at Westlake Village Inn, which resembles a vineyard estate with a freestanding tent for the reception. A rustic, yet elegant look. The hotel became a destination wedding for us Westsiders who don’t venture far. It had all the best elements without feeling like a standard hotel ballroom. It was perfect.

Every small detail was so important to me. The color scheme was blush, ivory, green with a pop of one dark color. The floral arrangements were a mix of high and low vases, all different antique silver mixed with votive candles and petals. Three long tables framed the dance floor. A mix of rectangular and round tables were used to fill the room to make the space feel warm, cozy and intimate. We used rose gold flatware to balance the blush linens. Lighting throughout the tent was amber and pink to compliment the reception. Vineyard chairs were the last touch to complete the room.

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

I never envisioned what my wedding dress would look like, which was a blessing and a curse. I tried on everything and anything. After many, many, many dresses, I found the one at Monique Lhuillier. It was the first dress that brought tears to my mom’s eyes, where she told me for the first time I looked like a bride. It felt real and was perfect.

The gown was extremely delicate with lace and tulle. I adjusted the dress slightly making the lace straps and train removable so the dress transformed after the ceremony.

What were some touches added to make it personal?

The two most personal moments of the ceremony came through music. I chose to walk down the aisle to “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” as did my mom at her wedding to my dad, and our cantor surprised us with a beautiful performance of my grandmother’s favorite song in her memory. Both songs will always resonate in my heart.

On the lighter side, we had custom drinks, letter-pressed napkins, drink stirrers and matchboxes with our initials on one side and ‘perfect match’ on the other. We monogrammed bathrobes for the bridal party, handkerchiefs with our initials hung on vintage racks during the ceremony ‘for your tears of joy,’ each parent and grandparent received personalized hankies and we even monogrammed welcome bags with our wedding hashtag #sarnoffisthenewblack.

Our delicious, simple and beautiful wedding cake was topped with a wedding cake topper Nick and I picked from my mom’s vintage collection.

What was the most memorable part of the day?

My brother was my husband’s best man, which was a very touching moment in itself and his best man speech was probably the most memorable part of the evening for everyone. Only a little brother and subsequent best man could tease the bride in a way no one else could get away with. It was personal, funny, touching, loving, brass and perfectly reflected the love he holds for both Nick and myself.

Tell us how you met and became engaged!

Nick and I met in high school when he was a senior and I was a sophomore. I thought he was so cute and since he was the president of the Robotics Team (yes, you read that correctly), I joined the team so that we could spend more time together. Fast forward many years later and I can say for sure that it was one of the greatest decisions of my life.

He proposed to me while we were in New Orleans for our 8-year anniversary. On the second night, he took me out to dinner to celebrate and as we exited our hotel I saw a horse drawn carriage waiting to take us to dinner. It was the first moment when I thought “he’s going to propose to me tonight.” We rode around the city for a little while before stopping in front of a garden. We stepped out of the carriage and sat down at a bench nearby. That was the moment that Nick got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was a moment and a feeling that I will always remember. As he slipped the ring onto my finger I noticed the octagonal shape of the ring. Nick told me that he had it made to represent the eight years we had been together – the ultimate representation of our high-school-selves and the adults we had grown into together.
