Annette and Ryan Hoegner
Our Love Story
We met in 1995 (Memorial weekend) at Kokomo’s in Irvine, CA. I was 18 and he was 20. He wouldn’t ask me to dance but just kept staring at me so I finally asked him and he said "I don’t like this song" it was Brass Monkey…. Well needless to say I was not too happy about that so I danced with someone else. Finally at the end of the night he asked me to dance and after a smart alec comment about not liking his song choice I accepted. My cousin wrote my name and number on a napkin in red lipstick and gave it to him and by the end weekend he was hanging out with my family. He lived in the OC and I lived in Riverside so we had a bit of a long distance relationship. We dated for 6 years and had our first daughter before he proposed.
The Proposal
Since we had been together for so long and already had a child we were pretty open about getting married. He asked me to have my mom watch our daughter so we could go out to dinner so I did and drove out to meet him for our dinner date at Orange Hill. He seemed unusually nervous so it tipped me off but I still wasn’t positive. After dinner we walked out by the fire pits and he literally blurted out "will you marry me". He was so nervous he put the ring on my right hand. After being together for so long it was kinda sweet how nervous he was. Of course I accepted and we were married the following year. We just celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary and on our 10th renewed our vows with our 3 children. :)
