Catherine and Jorge were married at Dalhgren Chapel on Georgetown University’s campus. This was special, not only because the bride, Catherine, is a Georgetown alum, but also because Georgetown is where her parents met and fell in love. The pair brought together two very large, close knit families for a celebration that extended well onto the dance floor. Photographer Rebekah Murray was on hand to capture all the lovely moments and details from the day, which we are so excited to share with you!

What made the wedding special and unique?

I have to say the seamless melding of two massive, effusive families from two very different parts of the world is the number one factor that made our wedding special. My family is a typical American mutt style, with a heavy concentration of Irish and German ancestry. Jorge’s family emigrated to the United States from Cuba starting in the 1970s. However, at the wedding (and particularly on the dance floor!) the similarity–and now the new permanent bridge–between our families was all you could see. Our amazing band emailed us after the wedding to tell us they had never seen a dance floor so packed for so long through a wedding reception. A particularly creative rendition of Guantanamera, with an assist from Jorge’s aunts and cousins, was a highlight.

The location of our ceremony also had a very special place in my heart and in my family history. We were married at Dahlgren Chapel on Georgetown University’s campus. This was special, not only because I am a Georgetown alum, but because Georgetown is where my parents met and fell in love.

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

I loved my gown more every time I saw it. I found it with my mom at Carine’s Bridal Atelier, on my second shopping trip to look at dresses. It was probably the 10th or so dress I tried on, and my reaction to it was immediately different from the others I had tried on. I had been open to trying on different styles, but when I had this dress on, I knew it was what I had been envisioning in the back of my mind the whole time. One of my favorite things about it was that all through my wedding day, friends and family from all walks of my life kept saying to me, “Your dress! It’s so YOU!” I loved that I could dance in it, and I loved that it was elegant, but had an aura of innocence about it. It was important to me to feel like a “bride,” but also to look like myself and not out of place in a dress that overwhelmed me or was high maintenance.

What were some touches added to make it personal?

We had many little touches that made our wedding personal. The cake topper was on my grandparents’ and my parents’ wedding cake. A refreshment stand set up outside the ceremony offered packages of sugar cookies in three shapes — a fax machine, espresso cup, and dirty martini — which correspond to three silly themes to the story of how Jorge and I met and the little quirks that we share. Our welcome boxes to out-of-town guests included vintage Washington, DC postcards pre-addressed with our address for our guests to mail to us instead of the traditional guestbook.

What was the most memorable part of the day?

Two moments which I cherish to this day stand out to me with clarity. The first was a fleeting moment, though I remember it almost in slow motion. It is just waiting in the courtyard in front of the chapel to process in for the ceremony, standing by my dad, and him taking my hand. After all the commotion of the morning getting ready, and the butterflies from all the events of the week leading up to the wedding, things were finally calm and peaceful – yet with a beautiful sense of anticipation of all that was still to come.

The second most memorable part was the ride from the ceremony to the reception. Jorge and I rode in a gorgeous 1960s Rolls Royce. Our driver was so sweet and took us down the streets of Georgetown, Embassy Row, and Dupont Circle. We had the windows down since the poor old car’s air conditioning was a bit weak, and passersby and other drivers honked and waved. The best part though was that this was a time for us to be together without all the craziness, and to get to talk – even if briefly – about the wonder of the day so far.

Tell us how you met and became engaged.

I was new to my office in the summer of 2012, and in completing some administrative paper work, had a very rare need to use a fax machine. Unsurprisingly, all fax machines anywhere in the vicinity of my workspace were completely non-functioning. I was walking a bit aimlessly down a hall to a part of the floor I had never been before, when a tall, handsome guy stood up from his desk and asked what I was looking for. Ever resourceful, Jorge of course knew the location of a functioning fax machine and personally led me up two flights of stairs to help me find it! After the fax sent successfully, we officially introduced ourselves, and the next day, Jorge was at my desk asking if I wanted to go grab coffee. Thus commenced a time in my life when I was chronically over-caffeinated, as we began daily morning and sometime afternoon coffee dates…

Our engagement story is plain, and almost a non-story, but I love it all the more. We became engaged at a random Starbucks (of course over coffee), in the middle of the work day after we had been dating about 8 months, when we were having a discussion about what we both wanted out of the relationship. We both acknowledged that we wanted to be married to each other, and so we decided to be engaged!

Kelly and Nick chose Sassi, a gorgeous Scottsdale wedding venue with gorgeous views as the backdrop for their wedding day. Rachel Solomon Photography was on hand to capture all of the gorgeous details and we know you are going to love the simplicity and romance of the day!

What made the wedding special and unique?

My vision for our wedding was “vintage romantic” and I chose a palette of yellow, gray and ivory tones to set the mood. We booked Sassi in North Scottsdale as the views from the ceremony site were breathtaking, and the dining room was just the right size for our 80-person event. Not to mention the food, service and atmosphere are superb! Once Sassi was booked I finalized my photographer, Rachel Solomon, my florist, Sarah’s Garden, my hair & makeup artist, Jessica Fierro, as well my entertainment, DJ Mars.

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

After I had the main vendors locked in, I set out in search of the perfect lace dress and veil to truly give me the vintage romantic feel I was hoping to achieve. After visiting a few boutiques in the Valley, I found my Pronovias gown at Lillian Lottie Couture in Scottsdale. The dress was absolutely perfect and exactly what I had always envisioned. I then found my Juliet Cap inspired veil at Sibo Designs on Etsy.com and it fit the style of the dress perfectly.

What were some touches added to make it personal?

Most of my décor came from various vendors I found on Etsy and all of the items I purchased were of high quality. The tables looked amazing set with dark fruitwood chivari chairs, custom made gray and ivory contemporary table runners, mismatched mercury glass votive candle holders, antique silver candy dishes with pastel candies, and mercury glass vases filled with flowers in my tones of yellow and ivory. My florist really polished the look by incorporating a variety of garden roses, hydrangeas, succulents and other garden flowers to give a soft and romantic feel. Combined with a four-course dinner, photo booth, karaoke and plenty of wine to go around, it was the most perfect day I could have imagined.

What was the most memorable part of the day?

The wedding planning process was effortless as I was lucky enough to have selected the most top notch, easy-to-work-with wedding professionals in the Valley. If not for all their combined expertise and true dedication, my September 19th, 2014 wedding would not have been the storybook, picture perfect day that it was.

Tell us how you met and became engaged.

I met my husband Nick at a bar over 5 years ago. Who would have thought I would meet “Mr. Right” at a bar of all places?! That night I went out with my roommate and it was destined to be. I ran into an old friend who I hadn’t seen for over a year and he turned out to be my future husband’s new roommate! Nick and I had instant chemistry and from that night on we were inseparable. We did things a bit backwards and moved in together, got the dog together and bought a house together, all before he finally proposed.

Nick is a hopeless romantic and he created the most amazing and thought out proposal ever! I came home from work one Thursday in September to a trail of rose petals and candles leading the way from our front door to the back patio. The patio was covered in flower petals and candles and sitting on the bistro table was a dozen yellow roses, my favorite, homemade chocolate covered strawberries, and a bottle of champagne.

Nick was so nervous, which was adorable, and I thought he would just ask me then but nope, he made me wait some more. What are a few more minutes of suspense after waiting over 4 years for this to finally happen? He set up a scavenger hunt around the house with each clue containing a picture of us dating back from when we first met. The final clue brought me back to the bistro table where the ring box was taped underneath. I opened the box and inside was the sweetest and most heartfelt letter he had written. He didn’t officially ask me but I said “yes” as he placed the ring on my finger. We got married almost exactly one year after becoming engaged, which seemed like an eternity until the final couple of months.

Lara and Brandon’s wedding was all about bringing family together. The bride, Lara tells us, “Since Brandon’s family is from Memphis and mine is from Caracas, the ceremony was performed half in Spanish and half in English. We also held the reception at my parents’ house, where Brandon’s family tried Venezuelan food for the first time. Several mojitos later, we all ended up jumping in the pool! It was the most fun I’ve ever had.” Well, we could not be any more excited to share such a gorgeous wedding! We know you are going to LOVE these photos by Erika Delgado Photography and the classic, laid back loveliness of Lara and Brandon’s gorgeous day!

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

I actually found my dress in the unlikeliest of places – online! The day after I was engaged, one of my friends sent me a link to an ivory J. Crew gown. At the time, I wasn’t looking for dresses yet but I ordered it on the spot. It’s the gown I ended up wearing – it was simple, romantic, and reminded me of Romeo & Juliet. It also had pockets which I loved.

What were some touches added to make it personal?

I wore my grandmother’s veil for the wedding which was not only incredibly beautiful, but special. We also used the ring pillow from my parents’ wedding – they’ve been married for 35 years!

What was the most memorable part of the day?

My favorite part of the day was probably saying our vows – we had memorized them the night before and were pretty nervous. After we finished stumbling through, we high-fived.

Tell us how you met and became engaged.

Brandon and I met while we were first year graduate students at UC Berkeley – we were both participating in Bay to Breakers, a costume party/parade across San Franciso, and bonded over our mutual love of NBA basketball. Brandon surprised me with a midnight proposal while we were celebrating the holidays in Florida with my family – the next morning we opened champagne and celebrated over breakfast.

Every year, The Cream Event ends with the most epic dance off. For this year’s prize to the dance off winner, Wanderable teamed up with Mr. & Mrs. Smith (who has spent the last decade checking into the world’s most stylish, inspiring and romantic boutique hotels) to offer a 7 night honeymoon in France at this year’s Cream Event in Los Angeles. The incredible giveaway included a $2,000 hotel credit in Paris (which can be used at any of the 65 properties in the Mr. and Mrs. Smith Hotel Collection in France), as well as 7 different Wanderable experiences, like a Flytographer photo shoot, Macaron making class, guided tours of Montmartre and Versailles and foodie excursions! In total, the prize was valued at over $5,000!!! Crazy, right? That’s why things get a little crazy during the dance off:

Michelle and Julian were married at Catalina’s in Sydney, Australia. With a view that overlooked the water, the pair invited family and friends to join them for their sunset vows and a gorgeous party after–which the bride tells us was a little inspired by a 90’s dance revival with tons of color and plenty of glow sticks bracelets to go around once the dancing started! We absolutely love all the fun of this wedding, shot by Nerida McMurray Photography.

What made the wedding special and unique?

For us, our wedding was a party. We decided to do our photos before the ceremony so we could maximise the amount of time we had to spend with our guests. We decided on a sunset ceremony at Catalina to capture the gorgeous view as dusk rolled in.

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

I found my dress at Lisa Gowing. It was love at first sight! I had only tried two dresses on before finding my dress but knew I didn’t have to look further. I left the boutique and called my Mum and best friend and told them they had to come and see it for the final tick of approval.

What were some touches added to make it personal?

We added personalised touches to our whole wedding, including naming our tables after ski runs in Aspen where we got engaged, and the boys wore customised cufflinks in the shape of aspen leaves. We used bright, vibrant flowers to represent the joy we felt and danced the night away with a 90s dance music revival – with glow stick bracelets for guests to share.

What was the most memorable part of the day?

Our wedding dance! We’d sweated over the dance, hoping to get it right. Thankfully we pulled it off without any mistakes!

Tell us how you met and became engaged.

We met in July 2009 on RSVP! You could say that online dating is not the most romantic way to start a relationship but we realised how right we were for each other from very early on. We ended up getting engaged in Aspen, Colorado in February 2013. Julian proposed one evening as we shared another memorable trip to our favourite destination (we have been to Aspen every year we have been together).

Spring has definitely sprung, and with it comes plenty of fresh wedding inspiration that has us so excited to enjoy the new weather! Today’s feature shot by This Love of Yours at Villa Montalvo (which is a venue that looks like it is in Italy–but NO!–it is in California!) is none other than absolute romance, thanks to the styling genius of Honey & Twine, with florals by Tango & Foxtrot and gorgeous calligraphy by our very own Grey Collective member, Curlicue Design. We know you are are going to love!

Before we sign off, we thought we’d leave you with the words that Curlicue Designs etched onto the stationery:

I want to do with you what spring does with the cherry trees. - Pablo Neruda
