Nov14 Tangram Puzzle Printable Parties from Melangerie 2011
I could not be more excited to share with you a recent project put together by Melangerie Inc. This darling paper suite (downloadable and print-your-own) includes everything you’d need to throw a party including the cupcake flags, garland, invites, paper chandelier, and more! Melangerie Inc also has additional colors and options available, all of which you can check out here! (Not sure what a tangram puzzle is? Check it out!)
My favorite part about this paper suite is seeing it in real life. This little party was put together by Melangerie Inc featuring Nine Cakes out of Brooklyn (love love love Nine Cakes!) and was shot by the absolutely wonderful Jen Huang (who is one of our Grey Collective Members!)

Nov03 Phew! Let’s Eat Some Cake 2011
You guys! We finished up our second Shoot This Not That Workshop yesterday and I’m beat! It’s been amazing spending a day teaching and shooting with great vendors and rad photographers! We are completely back in action soon, but for now, I wanted to show you a little peek of this darling wedding cake table I spied over on One Plus One Design, who collaborated with Jenna Rae Cakes, Ashley Illchuk and photographer Tracey Kiansky. There are lots more cutie images to see if you head over to the Weddings In Winnipeg feature as well as One Plus One Design!

Oct27 Punch Drunk Love Part One 2011
Sometime last spring, the editors of Southern Weddings Magazine asked me to put together a “Southern by Design” shoot to be featured in their 4th issue. In talking with the editors, they asked us to re-imagine the very southern classic “Cake and Punch” reception. I wrangled my darling/uber talented friend, Cortnie of Canvas and Canopy to help me style a beautiful shoot at Condor’s Nest Ranch! FILM photographer, Braedon Flynn brought his rad skills to the table and we had an absolute blast putting together a party that is both chic and totally doable! (Think of all the money you’ll save with a cake and punch reception instead of chicken and steak!)

For our sassy afternoon reception, we selected a short Marchesa gown from Gabriella New York Bridal Salon. For our Kate Middleton inspired headpieces, we enlisted Lo Boheme for custom pieces that added so much personality and spunk! Our hair and make up artist, Kacee Geoffroy helped us accomplish a fresh look with modern pops of color! We completed the looks with gorgeous jewelry created and provided by Noaki Jewelry.

Our Punch Drunk Love stationery was by MaeMae Paperie. The Gilly suite will be available to purchase when her new collection launches next week! Love those bright colors!

We nabbed really lovely furniture rentals from Urban Barn in Escondido.

Old mismatch forks were dipped in paint and we sourced tons of vintage punch bowls and cups from thrift stores! The punch cups served as place cards with calligraphy by Nancy Hopkins. The beautiful cakes were by Erica O’Brien with that ADORABLE “We’ll Have Our Cake and Eat It Too” cake server by Monkeys Always Look (who offers custom design AAAAND has a line coming out with Anthropologie very soon!).

We have so much more to share with you! Check back in later today for lots more images, a behind the scenes video AND some really fun recipes created just for us by Snake Oil Cocktails!

Sep20 Vintage Cake Toppers 2011
Today’s wedding featured a vintage bride and groom cake topper. I’ve always loved the idea of incorporating such an old tradition on my cake–it’s totally retro and the fashion of the vintage couples is always so chic. If you can track down the truly antique versions, they are definite show stoppers.
Beyond using them on your cake, the other idea is to use the mini couple for decor around the home once you’re married. They’d look great on a mini cake stand, under a dome, or resting on a few books. I did a little web search for you and came up with some places for you to track down your own pair if you’re on the hunt.

The above toppers are from Cammoo, and Merry Sunshine. Shops like this on Etsy have some really affordable selections. I recommend searching for cake toppers in the vintage section rather than the wedding section, as the results are better! A few other resources include Vintage Gal Antiques (a blogger who collects and sells vintage cake toppers) as well as Bella Cottages. You can also check out this vintage cake topper article on Martha Stewart Weddings, which lists even more resources. Fancy Flours offers a wide selection; their items are pretty pricey, however in really great condition. Ebay is another really great place to look as are antique fairs.
What are you topping your cake with? Flowers? Cake garland? Nothin’?
