A few weekends ago Paul and I had the wonderful pleasure of working with Jessica DeAgazio of Love & Light Photographs for a little engagement shoot that took place in Manhattan’s oh-so-romantic Central Park. Yes, the very same place we fell in love and got engaged.

Jessica and I are old intern buddies from our days at InStyle magazine where she was a fabulous photo intern and I was just trying to figure out what a Louboutin was. When I discovered she’d started Love & Light Photographs I knew I had to get an engagement session with her and as you can see from the photos, I’m sure glad I did.

You all know from my post about our wedding day photographer Zac Wolf, photography is something I care deeply about and have very high expectations for. That said, I couldn’t speak higher of Jessica and her talents. She made us feel comfortable and relaxed the entire time. The minute I started doubting the light conditions or the poses, she’d show me a glimpse of her camera and right then and there, the raw, unedited version of the photo would take my breath away. I’m telling ya, homegirl knows what she’s doing. She’s a rare, true talent who I feel lucky and spoiled to know.

There are so many aspects of the engagement shoot that could go awry and I didn’t fully understand that until Jessica was positioning my hands, ring, hair (thank God for her hair adjustments!) and so on and so forth. She actually carried both of our bags, along with her own, just so she could capture natural shots as they happened. What a girl! We were floored by her energy, talent and friendliness. She brought a positive, stress-free energy to the shoot that is so apparent in her work. Okay, okay, enough from me. Look at these photos and then run, don’t walk, over to her website and shoot her a message about your big day. You’re welcome in advance (enter winking face emoticon here).

Lots of love,
Lady Katie

We think you will too.

In a few short weeks I will be attending my first bridal shower hosted by my aunts. After attending my sister-in-law’s shower last March, I agreed that a Pampered Chef party for us would be a great idea. While we haven’t registered yet for all of the usual items, this is a great start to updating our kitchen essentials and more. I would be the first to admit that I am not the cook in our relationship, I am often the taste-tester. With new items soon to join our kitchen, I am getting anxious to join my future hubby in the kitchen!

When we first moved in together, we received a lot of hand-me-downs, for which we are forever thankful but I am excited to receive new items that we can call our own, and some day pass down to our kids! As the weeks pass, I am anxious to begin our registry as we have many blank walls that I can’t wait to decorate with pretties from Pottery Barn and Target, in addition to our kitchen adds from Pampered Chef!

In the new few weeks we will begin our official registry, so let make sure to let us know in the comments below what items should make our must-have list!

While we’re all busy planning our lives as brides, I had a chance to catch-up with a fashion blogger who’s been busy being a wedding guest. It’s hard to play up your personal style while playing it down enough so you don’t detract attention from the bride.

Below Maria Abad (Maria On Point) from Washington, D.C. shares tips and tricks for wedding attendees, including her favorite presents and pins. As my go-to resources in D.C. for fun professional and personal style, she hits the nail on the head when it comes to tying the knot.

Q: You’re a fashion blogger in the nation’s Capitol: What is the fashion scene like in D.C.?

A: The fashion scene in D.C. is very chic, fashion-forward and bold. Whether you go to a bloggers’ event, a ladies lounge or a new product launch, you’ll always find Washingtonians wearing stylish outfits.

Q: What are the current trends in fashion that you’re seeing at weddings across the country?

A: I’ve seen a lot of people wearing lace and neon dresses for the wedding ceremony, and floral prints and peplums for rehearsal dinners.

Q: How can wedding guests get playful with fashion, without outshining the bride?

A: A statement necklace or earrings are always a good accessory to highlight your outfit as well as colorful/fun shoes.

Q: What are tips for packing for a wedding weekend – domestic and abroad?

– Domestic: Make sure you pack print or fun color jeans versus your usual blue jeans with a nice blouse and a blazer. Jazzing up your travel outfit is always fun! This will help you be prepared in case you have to rush for a pre-rehearsal dinner outing and you have no time to change. Pack a statement necklace, fun clutch and simple top so you can wear this at after parties if you feel like changing from your wedding outfit.

– Rehearsal dinner: unless told it’s casual, pack two semiformal dresses that if you find out the wedding is not too formal when you’re already at the wedding place, you can use that one instead of your other more formal option. Find out if rehearsal dinner is at a garden or the beach, as this will tell you what footwear to pack.

– Wedding day: If you know you’ll be dancing all night in your high heels, it can’t hurt to have fold over flats in your bag so you can change late at night. Don’t worry about packing bobby pins, tissues and those; most brides have all those goodies in the bathroom for their guests. Nail polish always chips so I always bring the color I have on with me so I can reapply when needed.

– Abroad: The weddings I’ve been to abroad tend to be dressier than in the U.S. They’re usually black tie so pack long dress, high heels and a statement clutch. If the wedding is in Cancun, Tuscany or Provence then you know you have to pack summer friendly outfits, as you’ll be enjoying the beautiful sights. Make sure you bring your camera, power converter if you’re bringing a curling iron, as the power outlets are different in Europe and other places.

Q: If wedding guests want to give a fashion-forward gift to the bride-to-be, what do you recommend?

A: For a fashion-forward bride-to-be I would give her a fold over clutch by Clare Vivier (a girl can never have too many clutches), in a bold color or cool print (leopard) that she might not necessarily buy herself. She can take her fashion-forward gift with her on her honeymoon! If you really know her style, I would also consider giving her a funky, edgy and fashion-forward piece of jewelry. Studs are always a safe bet and look good on everyone, something like arrows or chevron style along with a spiky Stella & Dot renegade cluster bracelet will make her jump from joy.

Nine days. In nine days I will be a bride. In ten days I will wake up a wife- his wife.

What am I doing writing a blog post when I’m in the single digit countdown? I should be focusing on getting things done for the big day! But I wanted to tell you all: it gets better. Three weeks ago I was pulling out my hair, groaning to myself that the wedding couldn’t be over fast enough. All I wanted was to be married and be done. But this week has been the best week ever. I’m finding myself more in love every day. I’m like a giddy little girl. As you start to see the light at the end of the tunnel, the joy comes back. Everything becomes fun again. Like, so fun. We can both feel the adventure starting.

Moonlit

So consider this a word of encouragement. You’re going crazy finding the right votives. Your florist won’t call you back. Your caterer isn’t catching your vision. But guess what? At some point, you’ll be nine days away, waking up every morning like a kid on Christmas, stomach filled with butterflies, just excited to see your love.

Hold on tight! It will be a whirlwind but it’s so full of joy and excitement. And then- you get to be a bride.

Slide1

This past weekend we celebrated my Bachelorette Party in the Hamptons. We had the. best. TIME! If you haven’t noticed from my previous posts, I am a sucker for monograms. My bridesmaids and friends spoiled me with so many personalized gifts, I just had to share! You can treat yourself to one of these with your future monogram or they are great gifts for your bridesmaids as well!

1. RahRah Design’s Circle Monogram Bandeau – $54 {bottom sold separately}

My sister got me this adorable monogrammed bikini to show off my future initials. RahRah is our go-to shop that features several suits in different colors with monogramming options in circle, script and diamond shapes. Bonus: their suits are also perfect to wear on your honeymoon!

2. Minnie & Emma Flamingo Phone Case – $59

We are big on themed parties, and one of the days we celebrated with our current favorite theme – a retro pool party! Flamingos are all the rage lately too, so this personalized flamingo phone case is an absolute necessity!

3. Daw’lens Personalized Hairbrush – $11

Don’t overlook turning ordinary items like a brush into something extraordinary! This monogrammed brush was a huge hit all weekend – it’s as cute as can be and reasonably priced.

4. Moon and Lola Monogrammed Necklace – $61

I love all personalized necklaces – whether initials, nameplates or monograms – and especially swoon for ones that come in a variety of acrylic shades.

5. Customized Tervis Tumbler – $30

Another one of my girlfriends had this adorable idea to personalize a Tervis Tumbler with “Mrs. Aschenbach”. We happen to have a local Tervis shop in the area, but Tervis also has an awesome online tool that makes it very easy and convenient to shop their personalized products online, too!
