May12 Huron Substation + MOB Seamstress Skills 2011

Huron Substation is the antithesis to the ballroom wedding. It’s so rebellious with it’s exposed brick walls, eclectic fixtures, and industrial leanings. Which means that while it’s an indoor venue, it’s crazy ridiculous awesome. Todd and Jessica’s wedding at the Huron Substation lives up to the venue’s necessity for indie couples. Jessica’s dress (gals, I know you are going to be absurdly depressed when I break the news to you, so prep yourselves) was designed and handmade by her mom. Um…HELLO couture designer. There’d be a line out the door if she were selling her designs. Oh yeah, and those bridesmaid dresses? Stop it right now. Jessica’s mom designed and sewed those as well. So you won’t be getting your hands on those anytime soon…salivating over these will just have to do. Photographer Ryan Garvin shot all these great images and his work speaks for itself, no? Gorg, with a side of gorg.

  • Jessica swanson on May 13, 2011

Wow, what a gorgeous spread and thank you for such kind comments! So much credit goes to Ryan for being a complete superhero behind the lens. My mom blew my mind with that dress, putting so much love and countless hours into making it – but we did fashion it after an amazing Oscar de la Renta dress…we cant take design creds. :) I spent so many days and nights pouring over all of your super inspiring blogs in prepping for this wedding, it’s an honor to be mentioned on one! Thank you again!!! -Jessica

  • [...] Grey Likes Weddings featured this gorgeously hip couple and their adorable Huron Substation wedding a few weeks back. So when Summer of Grey tweeted that this bride had “one of the most stylish, fashion forward frocks she’d seen”… I knew in my heart that I had to see it. And when I did, I kept it up on my desktop, not willing to part with it. Just looking. Staring. Drooling. [...]

I’m sorry I forgot to give props to the ring designers! My ring is by Lucifer Vir Honestus, it’s a kunzite stone and rose gold and my now-husband’s ring is from an Etsy designer, Refractory, http://www.etsy.com/people/refractory.

Thank you again for all the kind words!!! Amazing.

So beautiful, Love the use of the Cynthia Rowley pattern for the Bridesmaids! So lovely in black!

  • Jenn on July 18, 2011

Jessica – your kunzite looks so pale and more white than I’ve seen from that stone. Was it just the images that made it appear that way? It’s absolutely beautiful!
